Research Technician

Specific responsibilities include animal (mouse) handling, genotyping, tissue and cell collection. Molecular and immunohistochemical techniques may also be used.  The ability to work with rodents in a laboratory setting and having basic/common molecular biology techniques. However, the successful applicant does not need to have prior experience with all the techniques used in the lab as onsite training will be provided. The successful applicant needs to have B.S. or B.A. in neuroscience or another related field, good communication and organization skills, and be able to work in a team environment.  Previous experience with rodent handling is desirable but not absolutely necessary.

Graduate Students

Students can enter the Medler Lab as a graduate student (Ph.D. candidate) via different programs:

The Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) Program

The School of Animal Sciences Graduate Program

Students can also enter the Medler Lab as a Master’s degree candidate (thesis only) via the School of Animal Sciences. Students interested in graduate study should contact the principal investigator directly (kathrynmedler@vt.edu) to discuss openings, application process and research interests.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students interested in gaining hands on research experience in the lab should contact the principal investigator directly (kmedler@vt.edu). In the email please state your major, academic standing (freshman, etc), research interests and future career goals/plans. Students looking to work in the lab for graded course credit MUST first volunteer in the lab for at least one semester. A one year commitment to the lab is needed.
